Objective: Identify the effects caused by the use of the subdermal implant in users of office of Family Planning of National Maternal Perinatal Institute Methodology: Descriptive, retrospective cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 78 users of the office of Family Planning of National Maternal Perinatal Institute were implemented the subdermal implant in February 2014 to the consecutive year. To analyze the statistical data used program SPSS V.22 in Spanish, for descriptive and univariate analysis of quantitative variables was used the central tendency measures (average) and measures of dispersion (standard deviation) and to the analysis of qualitative variables was made using absolute and relative frequencies. Results: The effects that occurred at the beginning of insertion was headache (3.8%) that a month had increased (24.4%) and the end of the year decreased (6.6%), the emotional changes that increase in a month to 24.4% of users and the year decreased to 5.3%, acne also presented at the beginning (6.4%) and the end of the year decreased (1.3%).Users overweight at the start of method were a total of 65.4% and at the end of the year this percentage decreased in 46.1%, Users of normal weight at baseline was 32.1% and at year's end 51.3%.The 31.6% of total users It decreased their weight at the end of the year on average of de -8±2.3 kg and only the 9.2%(7) increase in average of 6.2±2.3 kg. The breast pain was presented at 3 months (2.6%) and the year decreased (1.3%). The bleeding pattern’s more frequent was amenorrea (71.1%) followed by infrequent bleeding (15.8%), 3 cases of prolonged bleeding occurred (3.9%), the normal menstruation occurred in 3.9% of the users. Initially, the patients had dysmenorrhea in 20.5% which then decreased in 1.3%. Conclusions: The most common side effects in users of were headache and emotional change. Among the most common beneficial effects this weight reduction and the less common effect of reducing acne, breast pain and dysmenorrhea was observed.
