Diet American owl, Bubo virginianus was studied and analysed its composition in three seasons (fall, spring and summer) in the buffer zone of the National Reserve of Junín, Junín-Pasco, Peru. The methodology included analysis of 126 pellets by the wet method. As result the diet is composed of 430 dams and 29 food items, whose distribution was composed of 86.28% of small mammals, birds 11.16% and 2.33% of insects. Among the food items identified, the bird Fulica gigantea, and Nycticorax nycticorax and rodent Calomys spp., provide greater contribution of biomass, being the two first species due to average size and the latter by the greater frequency of consumption. Diversity indices Shannon-Wiener (H '= 2.29) and Simpson (1-D = 0.59) showed a different diet. Considering the diversity and abundance of prey in consumption and trophic niche amplitude of standardized Levins (Be = 0.054), the American owl behaves as an opportunistic predator specializing in eating rodents. According to the cycles of known activity of different prey species eaten by the owl, it seems that both hunting at dusk and night. Significant seasonal variability was found in dietary composition, with differences in the abundance of bird food groups (p = 0.005) and arthropods (p = 0.022) for the three stations.
