--- Title: Relationship between family functioning and sexual risk behavior in adolescents of perinatal maternal institute in February 2016 period. Introduction: Adolescence is a stage of development of great vitality; however, it is also a period in which the adolescent is exposed to a series of threats to their health, including those related to sexual behavior. In addition, the family being the primary core of the human being that incorporates the main patterns of behavior takes on a fundamental role in this stage of life. Objective: To determine the relationship between family functioning and sexual risk behavior in adolescents attending outpatient National Maternal Perinatal Institute in February 2016 period. Material and Methods: An observational, descriptive and prospective study. It featured a sample of 128 teenagers who a questionnaire on sexual behavior, sexual practices and family functioning was administered. The analysis was performed using SPSS software 22. Results: The average age of the adolescents was 16.9 years, being mainly minors (58.8%), female (98.3%) and secondary level of education (96.6%). Family dysfunction was present 81.4% of adolescents. It was found that “the number sexual partners equal or greater than two,“ “sexual relations with simultaneous consumption of drugs or alcohol“ and have a “more sexual experience,“ not associated with family dysfunction (p> 0.05); while “the use of barrier contraceptive methods“ (p = 0.007), “having presented some STD“ (p = 0.015) and younger age of first sexual relations (p = 0.015) Sexual if associated with dysfunctional families. Conclusion: The use of barrier methods of contraception, have filed an STI and the age of onset of sex as an expression of sexual behavior associated with dysfunctional families.
