*** Objective: Determine communication characteristics of nurses to the immediate post operative patient in the surgery. Material and method: Quantitative approach, application level, descriptive method and cross-sectional. The population was constituted by110patients operated on for abdominal surgery. The sample was selected through non-probability sampling, and to get are presentative population, was raised sampling convenience, considering 41% of the population. The 45 postsurgical patients mediate service HNDM abdominal surgery responded criteria to the inclusion and exclusion. For data collection was used the survey technique as an instrument and a questionnaire was applied semantic differential type, structured in two dimensions (verbal and nonverbal) with a total of 10 questions and 4 alternatives each. Result: 100% (45) of patients qualify that over 60% of communication characteristics of nurses in the verbal dimension is “fast”, “unclear“, “faltering“, “ tone low“, “incoherent“ and “hurried“. In the non-verbal dimension, mostly (over 68%), patients qualify the communication of nurses as “expressionless”, “withdrawal posture,“ gaze “elusive“ and “heedless. Also it was found that the profile of the characteristics of the communication of the nurse has a negative trend, which highlights the “speed of the message“ and “facial expression“. This indicates that is not set a therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient KEY WORDS: Communication Characteristics, Nurse(a), immediate postsurgical patient.
