--- Introduction: the right to reproductive health is essential for couples and families. Information on contraception postpartum stage is key to avoid early pregnancy, less than two years, and both mother and fetus complications. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge of puerperal National Institute of Maternal and Perinatal. Find the association between demographic variables - obstetric and the level of knowledge about contraception. Determine the percentage of respondents indicated in the survey by the women. Results: The level of knowledge was measured through a survey of 21 questions with 5 alternatives and only answer. It was found that 53.8% of postpartum women had a poor level of knowledge; 26.3% had a regular knowledge level; 18.8%, the level of good knowledge; and 1.3%, excellent level of knowledge. There is a relationship between level of education and level of knowledge as to perform Fisher's exact test p-value was 0.006 (0.006 <0.05) therefore rejects the null hypothesis. Therefore it is concluded that there is a statistically significant association between the level of education and level of knowledge about contraceptive methods postpartum National Institute of Maternal and Perinatal. January 2016. Conclusions: 53.8% of postpartum women had a poor level of knowledge, and there is an association between the level of education and level of knowledge about contraception in postpartum women National Institute of Maternal and Perinatal. There is a significant statistical association between level of education and level of knowledge of contraceptive methods. Keywords: contraception, knowledge, postpartum women and level of education.
