The objective of the present study was to determine the association between cephalic biotype and severity of periodontal disease, in canine patients of the Small Animal Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the National University of San Marcos, in the period September 2008 to March 2009. A total of 45 patients aged from one year old were classed through Cephalic index in brachycephalic dogs and not brachycephalic (mesaticephalic and dolicocephalic), finally were evaluated with Veterinary periodontal index. The result shows a frequency of 57.8% (26/45) of dog with periodontal disease and the brachycephalic dogs presented an 81.2%. It was found that severity of periodontal disease is associate with brachycephalic biotype. It was observed that missing teeth was higher in older dogs, the most affected teeth were premolars, and also it was found association between dental absence and brachycephalic biotype.
