--- OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and practices on breast self-examination technique in users of childbearing age who attend the National Teaching Hospital Saint Bartholomew Mother-Child during the period from January to February 2016. METHODOLOGY: The study was observational, descriptive-correlational design with cross sectional. We worked with a sample of 113 women of childbearing age who comes to family planning consultation National Teaching Hospital Mother-Child St. Bartholomew during the period from January to February 2016. For the descriptive analysis of absolute and relative frequencies and measures were used of central tendency. The chi-square test was used, which was considered significant when the value of “p“ was less than 0.05 to establish the relationship between the variables. RESULTS: The level of knowledge about breast self-examination technique in users of childbearing age was “high“ at 38.9% and “Medium“ at 36.3%. 81.4% of users had inadequate practice of breast self-examination and only 18.6% good practices. significant percentage differences between high-level knowledge and practice breast self-examination (p = 0.001) and low level of knowledge and practice of breast self-examination (p = 0.019) they were observed. CONCLUSIONS: There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and practices on breast self-examination technique in users of childbearing age who attend the National Teaching Hospital Saint Bartholomew Mother-Child during the period from January to February 2016.
