--- The fishfauna in the forest of Peru is one of the most diverse of the world. The great variety of habitats that offers our Amazon, favors this diversity. For that reason, it is very important to make more studies on the aquatic ecosystems, which contribute to extend the existing knowledge. The objective considered was to find differences in the water quality, to study some ecological aspects in the communities of fishes (diversity, similarity, indicators species and seasonal variation) and to determine the spatial distribution of major size species in two “oxbows lakes”: Cocha Cashu and Cocha Totora, located within the Manu National Park, Manu, Madre de Dios. The samples were collected in both dry and rainy seasons, using four methods of fishing: seines,, gill net, cast net and electro fishing. With the purpose of determining significant differences, at water quality, between Cashu and Totora, the data of physic-chemistry parameters in each oxbow lake were registered, considering: conductivity, pH, temperature, oxygen and transparency. The captures obtained with the four methods of fishing at both season were used in order to elaborate the lists of species of Cashu and Totora. The analyses of diversity, similarity, cluster and seasonal variation were made from samples with seines, settled down three stations in each oxbow lake, in both dry and rainy seasons. For the analysis of the spatial distribution a sampling with cast net was made dividing each “oxbow lake” in three zones: “pastizal”, “centro” and “troncos”. 36 species for Cashu and 36 for Totora were recorded. Significant differences between Cashu and Totora at the water quality were registered.
