--- The objective of this research is to find the factors behind the introduction of innovations in the poultry industry in Perú broilers and its effect on the levels of competitiveness for the period 1986-2006, taking as a benchmark of theoretical developments Dávila, Epstein and Shelton (2006), Henderson and Clark (1990), Galizzi and Venturini (1986), Charles Fine (2000) and Schumpeter (1950) to identify factors that explain the nature and types of innovations in industry poultry. The methodology used is based on conducting in-depth interviews with executives, technicians and former executives of the poultry sector companies. It has also been resorted to in-depth interviews with experts and consumers in the distribution chain of poultry meat in the city of Lima, to obtain primary information. This methodology is chosen because the good results obtained by Cohen, W and RC Levin (1989) in studies of innovation. To find the factors behind the innovations will be used to factor analysis of correlation and principal components The empirical findings show that the nature of innovations in the poultry industry is largely incremental in nature (at 63%) and business models by 28%. As to the factors behind the introduction of innovations in the distribution chain, production and improvement in competitiveness is primarily a flexible production system, the chain of distribution, product design, the suppliers of genetics, deepening of markets and transport systems. On the other hand, is that most product innovations have been made in the past six years and that most of these innovations have been introduced by the San Fernando. It has also been found that factors influencing the innovation process in the national poultry industry are: quality management, efficiency in the consumption of materials and the rejection rate of the product. Another important finding is that innovation in the national poultry industry broilers is determined largely by the needs and demands of the market and not by technology suppliers as in countries like Brazil and Argentina.
