Fifty PIC line sows and their piglets were used to determine the effect of a food additive probiotic (Saccharomyces cerevisiae 12 x 109 CFU/g, Bacillus subtilis 15 x 1010 CFU/g and Bacillus coagulans 15 x 1010 CFU/g) added on conventional diets. Sows were ramdomly divided by body condition and parity in two groups (Probiotic and Control). The experimental diets were fed three weeks prior to farrowing and for the duration of lactation. Treatments during gestation were as follows: 1) Control Group: Gestation diet (MG), and 2) Probiotic Group: MG with a supplemental feed additive probiotic. The consume feed was restricted during gestation (2-3 Kg./day). Treatments during lactation were as follows: 1) Control Group: Lactation diet (ML) with no supplemental feed additive probiotic, and 2) Probiotic Group: ML with a supplemental feed additive probiotic without antibiotic. The consume feed was ad libitum during lactation. The parameters recorded, in sows, were: live weight and feed intake; while in piglets: litter size, birth and weaning weight, and mortality and morbility. The results obtained showed that the supplemental feed additive probiotic in sows was affected in the weaning weight (P > 0.05), One found differences in the morbidity and besides there was a marginal difference in the mortality of the pigs related to gastro-enteric problems.
