-- The present study had the purpose to determine the relation between the prevalence of Temporomandibular Disorders and the Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support in adults in The Naval Medical Center in 2010. 400 patients were analyzed and they were equally divided in 2 groups, one with Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support and the other without Loss of Occlusal Posterior Support. They were evaluated with the Helkimo Index in order to determine the presence of Temporomandibular Disorder, and by means of the number of lost posterior teeth to establish the presence of Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support. It was found that 83% of the patients with Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support and 73% of patients without Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support had Temporomandibular Disorders. The female sex and the group of 56 years or more were the most affected by Temporomandibular Disorder. There were a higher percentage of people affected by Mild Temporomandibular Disorder. Using the Chi-square Test, it was found a statistically significant association between prevalence of Temporomandibular Disorder and Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support and a statistically significant association between severity of Temporomandibular Disorder and Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support. Keywords: Temporomandibular Disorders, Loss of Posterior Occlusal Support, Helkimo Index.
