Despite all the advances in dentistry, removable dentures are still essential for oral rehabilitation of edentulous patients. Cleaning dentures is not always correct, either by the lack of guidance by the dentist or the patient's own negligence. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of different disinfectants on removing Candida albicans, Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis adhered to heat-curing acrylic resin. Materials and methods; 51 samples of heat-curing acrylic resin were fabricated using wax patterns with the same dimensions (15mm x 15mm x 4mm) and subjected to a polishing system, simulating full dentures. The samples were autoclaved (121 ° C x 15min), and then they were contaminated with strains of C. albicans, S. mutans and E. faecalis. After contamination, they were exhibited to NaClO 0.5 %, chlorhexidine 0.12 % and effervescent tablets Corega Tabs for 5 min. Smear disinfected resins were taken and sown in Petri plates. The results were observed at 24 h to verify whether or not removal of bacterias. Results: NaClO 0.5 % and chlorhexidine 0.12 % showed greater efficacy than effervescent tablets Corega Tabs in removing C. albicans and E. faecalis adhered to heat-curing acrylic resin. There was no difference between the three disinfectants on the removal of S. mutans. KEY WORDS: C. albicans, S. mutans, E. faecalis, heat-curing acrylic resin.
