Introduction: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that has negative consequences for public health because of its high capacity vertical transmission during any time of pregnancy , which can lead to high rates of infant and child morbidity and mortality in areas where levels persist high prevalence of treponemal infection. Although the risk factors associated with syphilis in pregnant women is known worldwide, few studies at national, regional and local levels. Objectives: To determine the risk factors (sociodemographic factors and obstetric factors - behavioral), along with the prevalence of syphilis in pregnant women at the Hospital of San Juan de Lurigancho in 2013. Design: Quantitative, descriptive, retrospective study. Location: Made in HSJL, Lima, Peru in 2013. Participants: Medical records and note PRETEST of all pregnant women with confirmed syphilis treated at the HSJL diagnosis in 2013. Intervention: reviews of medical records and PRETEST chips, used in the service PROCETSS ( Control Program STD AIDS ) of the 62 pregnant women with confirmed syphilis diagnosis and the data obtained was performed were recorded in the instrument developed for this purpose . Subsequently the data were analyzed using SPSS version 21. Results: The prevalence of syphilis in pregnant women in 2013 was 0.77 per 100 pregnant women at the HSJL Regarding sociodemographic factors most patients with syphilis were between 20-35 years old equivalent to 64.5 %, 35.5% of them come from the slums Huascar , 74.1 % were cohabiting , 48.4 % of all secondary culminated and 93.5 % are housewives. For obstetric factors - behavioral: A 32.3 % had a total of 3 pregnancies, 87.1% of them went to HSJL in the III trimester of pregnancy, 61.5 % had between 1-5 prenatal visits, 67.7 % of cases the diagnosis of syphilis was in the immediate postpartum period, 69.4 % had between 2-3 sexual partners (including the current), 30.6 % had a history of STDs, all patients 74.2 % never use condoms and 32.3 % of them consumed a hallucinogen (alcohol, drugs, snuff, etc.) before or during pregnancy. Conclusions: The prevalence of syphilis in pregnant women for the year 2013 on HSJL is within the figures target PAHO. Regarding sociodemographic factors most patients with syphilis are among 20-35 year olds (because most pregnancies occur in this interval), a 35.5 % coming from the AA.HH Huascar (town district SJL, considered red zone STI), most are cohabiting and housewives, so their economic status is low and dependent on the couple, plus about half did not complete high school, a condition that limits access to education sexual. Also according to obstetric factors - behavioral evidenced most attended their first prenatal care (NPC) in the third quarter, including labor and more than half of the cases of gestational syphilis were diagnosed in the postpartum events that interfere with early diagnosis and treatment of syphilis. It was also found that most pregnant couples do not use condoms during sex and that the third party has other risk behaviors such as consumption of hallucinogens and STIs as background, which increases the risk of getting pregnant for this infection.
