--- Objective: Determine if ibuprofen and celecoxib reduced the fertility of female rats. Design: Experimental. Location: animal house, Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Biological material: Rats, Sprague-Dawley adult 3 to 4 months old, weighing 150 ± 20 g. not pregnant. Methods: monitoring the total estrous cycle of rats, and were randomized in 3 groups: control group (n = 7) 0.1ml/100g saline, ibuprofen group (n = 7): Ibuprofen 120 mg / kg/12h; Celecoxib group (n = 8): Celecoxib 20 mg/kg/12h. The treatment started in diestrus and came together with males in estrus the same cycle, only ten days. After 10 days remained untreated and alone, at the conclusion of 20 days were euthanized and the uterus exposed. Main Outcome Measures: We used the pregnancy rate and number of fetuses evaluated through the average and the percentage reduction. Results: The evaluation of % of gestation, ibuprofen was 28.6% and celecoxib was 62.5%, who were under the control compared with 85.7% in the assessment of the number of fetuses, the % reduction was 76.2% for ibuprofen, and 59.9% for celecoxib compared to the control group. No significant difference between ibuprofen and celecoxib groups, both in the pregnancy rate and the number of fetuses. Conclusion: The intragastric administration of ibuprofen 120 mg/kg/12h and celecoxib 20 mg/kg/12h adjust negatively normal fertility in female rats. No significant difference was found between ibuprofen 120 mg/kg/12h and celecoxib 20 mg/kg/12h on fertility in normal female rats. Key words: rat, celecoxib, ibuprofen, fertility
