INTRODUCTION: The development of a medical record is the end product of learning and teaching that has developed in the Pre grade. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate an intervention program to improve the quality of medical records produced by the interns of the Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo in Lima Peru. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Descriptive and intervention study with a before and after design, performed in 2007. A data collection instrument was designed (α = 0.87) following the guidelines of the technical standard of audit quality health care (OR 049-2005/MINSA) Ministry of H ealth of Peru. The instrument was administered at the beginning of the rotation of medicine. Then it was applied an intervention program, which was to strengthen the deficiencies found in the first evaluation. Finally it was applied again the same instructive and the results were compared. RESULTS: In this study were included a total of 71 interns. The percentage of clinical histories considered acceptable increase of 66.6% to 84.5% (p = 0.001). There was an improvement in the descent (p = 0.002) and a presumptive diagnosis (p=0.048). But there are still deficiencies in several items after the intervention program. CONCLUSIONS: There was an improvement in the development of history, no clutch despite the intervention program there are still points where there are deficiencies, these being very important as the date and time of care and doctor's signature and seal. Therefore it must constantly train medical interns for optimal results. KEY WORDS: Clinical records, Medical education, Medical intern.
