--- OBJECTIVE: To analyze the adherence and the factors that influence iron supplementation in pregnant women attending the Mother and Child Center “Manuel Barreto“ during the months of June to August 2015. METHODOLOGY: This is an observational, analytical, cross-sectional retrospective study. A sample of 212 pregnant women were studied. Data were processed in SPSS v.21 statistical program. For statistical analysis of qualitative variables absolute and relative frequencies were calculated. For the inferential analysis we used Chi-square OR was calculated to estimate the relationship between adherence to supplementation with iron and the factors influencing it. RESULTS: Adherence to iron supplementation in pregnant women attending the Mother and Child Center “Manuel Barreto“ was optimal in 49.1%, moderate in 32.1% Low 13.2% and 5.7% in Nula. Socio-economic factors influencing iron supplementation significant difference was found in the nulliparity (p = 0.013; OR = 2.6). Factors related to treatment were found to nausea (p = 0.000; OR = 4.617), vomiting (p = 0.000; OR = 13,667), abdominal pain (p = 0.003; OR = 10.5), headache (p = 0.000; OR = 10.5), dizziness (p = 0.000; OR = 5.778), having 2 or more complaints (p = 0.000; OR = 13,255) and accompanying taking the supplement without vitamin C (p = 0.038; OR = 2.18) They presented statistically significant difference. Factors related to the patient statistically significant difference was found in the iron intolerance (p = 0.000; OR = 13.2). Factors related to the health care system and the factor associated with the disease were no statistically significant differences were found. CONCLUSION: Adherence to iron supplementation average was 76.1%. Nulliparity, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, have 2 or more discomfort, accompany the taking of supplements without vitamin C and iron were present intolerance factors influencing adherence, having a higher probability of having null-low adherence.
