Objective.- To determine epidemiological and clinical aspects of cerebrovascular disease in patients attended in the emergency room of the Hospital Arzobispo Loayza between the months of February to April of 2005. Methods.- a prospective transversal and analytical study was made in patients with a clinical and tomographic diagnosis of isquemic or hemorrhagic stroke, that went to emergency in the first 72 hours of disease. We excluded patients with head trauma, transient ischemic attacks or anemia. Results and Conclusions.-eighty patients met requirements, 55 (68,8%) were women and 25 (31,2%) were men. The average age was 68,33 years, it was higther in female group. Motor deficit and changer in mental status were the most frecuent symptoms. Motor deficit and comma were the most frecuent signs. 66.3% had isquemic stroke, 28.8% had intraparenquimal hemorrhage and 5% had subarachnoid hemorrhage .Most of the patients had Arterial Hypertension, diabetes mellitus and atrial fibrillation as background. The most common destiny of patients were Medicine Rooms and Emergency Rooms. Deaths in any of the groups did not appear.
