Introduction: premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is defined as the spontaneous rupture of ovular membranes after 22 weeks of gestation and up to one hour before the start of labor. When the PROM occurs before 37 weeks is known as premature rupture of fetal membranes preterm (PPROM). The PROM is a frequency of 10% of all pregnancies and 20% of preterm pregnancies. According to statistics from the Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal (INMP) the number of cases of pregnancy complicated with PPROM is very significant and in the last 5 years averaged 10.5% of all preterm births and is a major cause of morbidity and perinatal mortality. Objective: To determine the prevalence and behavior of maternal risk factors associated with preterm premature rupture of membranes between 22 and 34 weeks gestational age. Material and methods: A descriptive study, retrospective cross in patients diagnosed with PPROM who were attending the INMP during the period January to December 2008 and a gestational age between 22 and 34 weeks, with a total of 203 patients who reviewed their medical records to identify maternal risk factors presented to RPMpt. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 15.1. Results: The risk factors associated with RPMpt were: average age 26.08 years, half interval 28.64 months, 3.4% had low maternal weight, maternal overweight 29.6% and 7.4% are obese, while 59.6% were of normal weight, average number of antenatal visits 2.43 ± 2.22, half gestational age 30.01 ± 3.22 weeks, cervico-vaginal infection, urinary-37.93%, 2.46% low social risk, social risk half 55.17%, 42.36% high social risk, 7.39% metrorrhagia, infertility 2.46 %, 2.46% multiple pregnancies, a previous RPM 10.84%, after surgery in obstetrics and gynecology 35.47%, 41.87% 1 the gestures, 29.1% with G3 to G5 and 3.45 gestures more than 5%, the median time of RPM was 157.28 ± 74.51 hours. Conclusion: The incidence of PPROM between 22 and 34 weeks gestational age and period of 2008 is 11.67%, the population group most affected by the evaluation of medium and high social risk, with the exception of multiple pregnancies and infertility all other risk factors are associated with RPMpt.
