Hip dysplasia is the main orthopedic disease of the development of canine, of progressive presentation and that invariably will evolve to articulate degenerative disease. The objective of the present study was to determine the frequency of presentation in canine of the breed Neapolitan Mastiff greater of 6 months of age and evaluating its association with the variables sex, age, and clinical signs. The study was made according to the scientific lineaments of the Internationale Cynologique Federation, having used the radiological examination and using the method of quantitative diagnosis of Norbert’s angle. Sixty dogs selected at random and distributed by sex (30 animals by each sex) and in three age groups were evaluated. A frequency of presentation of 65% was determined (39/60), considered elevated in comparison with the international records. The greater degree of affection corresponded to degree 3 (severe). Moreover, the illness appeared mainly bilateral (60.23%), was associated greatly to clinical signs (62.96%) and in greater proportion in canines from 6 to 18 months of age. Association between sex, the animal age and the presentation of the disease was not obtained. Given the results, is confirmed the need of radiological examination for the definitive, precise, detailed diagnosis of hip dysplasia, still in animals without clinical signs. Key Words: Hip dysplasia, canines, radiological examination, frequency, angle of Norberg, Neapolitan Mastiff.
