--- The white spot lesions represent one of the main oral health problems mainly evident in children. These may be active or inactive; the white spot lesions can be inactivated, but they may be inactivated thanks to the treatment with fluorine for a specific time, for the purpose of reduce and / or eliminate caries activity. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of topical application of fluoride varnish over caries activity of white spot lesions after each dose and after the attack treatment in young permanent teeth of patients 6 to 12 years Naval Medical Center Cirujano Mayor Santiago Távara. It is a pre-experimental research, prospective and longitudinal type, the sample was selected intentionally and consisted of 264 white spot lesions caused by dental caries patients. These lesions to 4 doses were applied fluoride varnish 5% once a week for a month. To determine the activity of caries lesion white spot three indexes were used: ICDAS II to evaluate the characteristics of the white spots, Loe and Silness to assess the level of dental plaque, and Nyvad to evaluate the texture of the tooth surface. Statistical tests used were the non-parametric Wilcoxon test and Chi Cuadrado statistical coefficient with contrasting McNemar test. The results show that topical fluoride varnish applications decreased significantly, (p = 0.000), caries activity of white spot lesions in 72.37% at the end of the attacking dose. It is concluded that topical application of fluoride varnish 5% reduces the activity of caries lesion white spot of young permanent teeth at the end of the attacking dose. Keywords: Fluoride varnish - caries activity - white spot.
