-- The present study evaluated the anesthetic effectiveness of the technique of GowGates for the blockade of the mandibular nerve in patients who required anesthesia by blockade, considering like indicators: the time of appearance of the first anesthesia signs, the territory anaesthetised reached to the 5, 10 and 15 minutes, frequency of the anesthesia of the Buccal nerve to the 5, 10 and 15 minutes and the anesthetic result, according to the age and gendergroup. We evaluated40 patientsof both sexes(21 menand 19 women) who were attended in theOral ndMaxillofacialSurgery, Faculty of DentistryUNMSM,requiring the useof anesthetic techniqueformandibular block. In order to analyze the results, it was used measures of central tendency like average and standard deviation; showing that the appearance of the first anesthesia symptoms was of 130,8 seconds, as far as the age rank the appearance was of 130,3 seconds in the age group of 21-40 years; besides being the feminine sex that obtained one more a faster appearance 130,5 seconds than masculine sex, the anaesthetised territory total went of 87,5% to the 15 minutes. For the age group of 18-20 years to the 15 minutes was de100% and was the feminine sex that obtained the 89,5%, the anesthesia of the Buccal nerve went of the 92,5% to the 15 minutes. For the age group of 18-20 years and 21-40 years was of the 100% and was the masculine sex that obtained the 95,2%, is observed that the anesthetic result was satisfactory with 77,5% for the age group of 41-65 years was of 85% and was the masculine sex that obtained 85,7%, establishing the anesthetic effectiveness of the Gow-Gates´technique in the mandibular extraction of molares.
