--- A field study was conducted to determine the prevalence of antibodies against Mycoplasma meleagridis (MM) in turkey breeder flocks from Lima during 2007. A total of 400 blood samples were taken from 20 different turkey breeder flocks older than 8 weeks of age, males and females, in the districts of Asia and Chilca. The indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the serum antibodies against M. meleagridis A total of 3 positive samples were found in 3 different flocks, which represents a prevalence of 0.75% ± 0.042. The seroreactivity in each affected flock was 5%, far lower than expected in MM-infected flocks. Besides, birds from M. meleagridis positive flocks did not show clinical signs compatible to those observed in the disease. According to these findings, it’s possible to say that the 20 flocks were not exposed to M. meleagridis and that the positive results may be due to false positive seroreactions.
