This paper antibacterial effect in vitro of the essential oil of Minthostachys mollis in Streptococcus mutans was evaluated, the plant species was collected from the city of Tarma (Junín) about 8 kilos of leaves muña, which were processed to obtain the essential oil, held at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry (San Marcos) The pattern of Streptococcus mutans strain was purchased, was revived and plated in culture medium with trypticase soy agar (TSA), susceptibility testing was performed. For these tests, essential oil dilutions were prepared. Paper discs were soaked sterile filter with 10 microliters muña essential oil 100 %, other discs were prepared with essential oil muña 50 % and 25 % used as a solvent and DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) negative control were used, and as a positive control was used amoxicillin discs. Each disc was placed in an orderly and equidistantly in the culture medium; incubated anaerobically by the method of extinguishing the candle at 37 ° C for 48 hours. Allow time observation and interpretation of the results was performed. Measurements of inhibition zones were performed using vernier. In the samples of essential oil Minthostachys mollis 100 % scored average of 10.79 mm, essential oil Minthostachys mollis 50 % average of 7.6 mm essential oil Minthostachys mollis 25 % average of 5 mm (size disks) as the negative control (DMSO), positive control (amoxicillin) average of 49.3 mm. Data were processed in SPSS version 19 and ANOVA analysis of numerical data of the inhibition halos was performed, was obtained p (0.000) <0.005 (statistically significant). It was concluded that Minthostachys mollis essential oil 100 % compared with the positive control (amoxicillin) had lower antibacterial effect.
