-- Nowadays, the availability of human resources in health is in international standards; however, its distribution is inequitable and has an inverse relation to main health problems. Objective: To know the expectations of Medical Interns of 5 General Hospitals from Lima and Callao about their Professional Practice and their preference for Primary Health Care. Methodology: Cross-sectional study, carried out in 207 Medical Students coursing their Internship at 5 General Hospitals from Lima and Callao during 2006, using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: Specialization was the first option of professional exercise in 84.5% for medical interns, 37% preferred surgical specialties and 30% clinical ones. Furthermore, 30% of future doctors have thought to work abroad. Finally, it was observed that 52 (39.7%) of Interns declared that they would be dedicated to Primary Health Care. Conclusions: 84.5% of medical interns of 5 general hospitals from Lima and Callao had as first option to carry out some specialty after culminate their undergraduate studies and just 25.1% declared that they would dedicate to Primary Health Care, many of them, without having a clear concept about this strategy.
