-- The present purpose study was to determine the prevalence of maxillofacial fractures in patients who went to the “Hospital Nacional dos de Mayo” and “Hospital Militar Central”; which evaluated the histories clinic of 381 patients, checked in since January 2000 until December 2006. The main aim was to assess how to behave fractures of maxillofacial fractures according to age, sex, cause of injury, localization, anatomic zone and kind of treatment. The test was done with statistical package SPSS. The male sex was the most affected with 332 cases (87.14%) the most affected group were patients between 21 and 30 years old with 41.87% for the male sex and 26.53% for the female sex. The cause of injury more common was traffic accidents 40.69%; followed by physical aggression, 29.66%; the falls 21.78%; work accidents 4.46% and sports accidents 3.41%.The most frequently fracture bone was the mandible with 238 cases (41.97%). According the anatomical region fractures of the middle third were the most frequently with 46.08%, bottom third of fractures with 33.39%, followed by fractures upper third with 5.78%. The technique of surgical treatment was the most used.
