-- Breast cancer is common in Lima women and ranks second nationally, so the breast self-examination is a preventive measure, important to detect any abnormalities. This study aimed to determine knowledge, attitudes and practices of breast self-examination nursing students from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). Is quantitative, application level, descriptive method and crosssectional, the sample was selected through a probabilistic, stratified, the sample size was 123 female students, was obtained with the formula of “Determination of sample size for estimating a proportion. “The technique used was the interview, and as an instrument, a questionnaire and Lickert scale. The results were, students from 1 year of study, have knowledge under 72%. From 2 to 5th year, the average knowledge predominates over 50% each year. Attitudes, all the years presented more accepting attitude comprising 55% of the sample in each year. Over 40% of each year did not practice breast self-exam technique. The conclusion was that most nursing students of San Marcos have average knowledge and acceptance trend toward breast self-examination, however, most art does not perform breast selfexamination. -- Keywords: breast self-examination, nursing students, knowledge, attitudes, practices.
