--- Objective: To determine expectations and perceptions of quality of care in general practice in external users of “Luis N. Sáenz“ National Hospital of the National Police of Peru. Lima, September 2013 - February 2014. Methodology: descriptive, observational, prospective and cross-sectional research; the study included 328 external users; as an instrument SERVQUAL scale was used; to describe the results relative and absolute frequencies were used and the comparison of variables chi-square test was used. Results: The average age of users was 45.7 ± 15.3 years, ranging from 20 to 76 years. The 93.6% of external users have a high level of expectations for health care; the dimensions with the highest scores were Empathy, Security and Tangibility; regard to, empathy the 93.29% have high expectations regarding the treatment given, explanation of treatment and health status; in the security dimension, the 85.37% relates it to the full and thorough medical examination; and in the Tangibility dimension the 92.38% is related to signaling to locate the office. After the attention received, 72.26% of external users perceived a mid-level attention; the dimensions of Empathy and Security had higher valuation, in relation to friendly / respectful of the doctor (54.88%) and the time given by the doctor (54.27%), respectively, contrast to the dimension of tangible aspects that had the lowest valuation, mainly because the equipment and materials necessary for the user's attention. Conclusions: External users of general practice, of “Luis N. Sáenz“ National Hospital of the National Police of Peru, have high expectations for their attention; however, 72.26% of external users perceive a mid-level attention.
