--- Nowadays, one of the problems in the world is the heavy metal discharge into the environment. Among these we can find copper and the physicochemical treatments used to remediate this problem do not solve it completely, meanwhile bioremediation has advantages such as low installation and operation cost, easy application technology, the resulting products are generally harmless, safe treatment with minimal health risk and it is technologically effective. In this research, we isolated yeasts from Junín and Tumbes mining were evaluated to determinate its Copper resistance and biosorption capacity and then the strains were molecularly identified. At first, the resistance capacity was evaluated and the best strain was selected to perform the biosorption kinetics assay and later it was molecularly identified. From 13 yeasts strains, 4 of them had MIC until 20 mM copper concentration, 6 had 30 mM MIC, 1 had 40 mM MIC and another one had 60 mM MIC; but one had only 10 mM MIC. The most resistant strain according to molecular identification was Yarrowia lipolytica. Based on the results it is concluded that strain, in general, presented resistance capacity, especially 9TS 500 1L (Yarrowia lipolytica) but, however, it had little biosorption capacity (1.29% using living biomass and 0.72% using dead cells in one hour). Key words: Copper, yeast, resistance, biosorption, molecular identification.
