-- The aim of this study was to demonstrate the frequency and type of alterations in canine prostate by ultrasonography and cytology. It was analyzed 62 non-castrated male dogs obtained in the ultrasound room of the Small Animals Clinic of the FMV-UNMSM and underwent prostatic ultrasound examination, after pre-pubic area was prepared aseptically and was performed echographically guided prostatic aspiration; the obtained smears were stained and cell recognition was done. The results of the observed alterations were classified according to the diagnosis, their frequencies and also the effect of the age group, size, breed and clinical signs of the frequencies found. It was determined that 40 animals (64.5%) had a prostate disease with the two tests. According to the ultrasound technique cyst or abscesses (4.8%), prostatic hyperplasia (32.3%), hyperplasia and prostatitis (20.9%), prostatitis (4.8%) and neoplasia (1.6%) were detected. About the guided aspiration cytology, it was determined glandular hyperplasia (32.3%), hyperplasia associated to inflammation (16.1%), prostatitis (12.9%) and adenocarcinoma (3.2%). Statistical association was determined both age and clinical signs with the presence of prostatic pathology (p<0.05), it was concluded that age and clinical signs have a positive correlation with the appearance of any prostatic alteration. Concordance was determined between the diagnose resulting from the two tests (p<0.05), obtaining a lower correlation between the results of prostatic inflammation (k= 0.315). -- Key words: dogs, prostate, alteration, aspiration, ultrasonography, cytology
