In the coastal areas of our country, limited scientific research and the lack of environmental management instruments do not allow public areas such as beaches to be auditable in terms of environmental management of solid waste. The difficulty in accurately identifying those responsible for the inadequate disposal of marine debris aggravates the current environmental problem at Agua Dulce beach, located in the district of Chorrillos, Lima. The present study proposes to analyze the application of the international matrix scoring technique as part of a standard and simple methodology to support decision makers in guiding management strategies according to the identified sources and the major contributor. A total of 3032 units of solid waste were sampled during the fall, winter, spring and summer seasons. From the total found, it was evident that the most common type of solid waste was cigarette butts, and the main contributor came from beach users.
