This research analyzes the impact of informal employment on the health of informal workers in Peru during the period 2015-2019, focusing on the risk of developing diseases. A theoretical framework based on the WHO's model of social determinants of health is developed, and an exhaustive review of the existing literature is carried out. Using the National Household Survey (ENAHO) and applying the Probit methodology with instrumental variables, it is found that informal employment has a positive and significant effect on the probability of having a disease compared to formal workers. Specifically, working in informal employment increases the probability of having a disease by approximately 25.48%. Additionally, access to health insurance increases the likelihood of reporting a disease, possibly due to greater detection and diagnosis. Advanced age, residing in urban areas, and being female are also associated with a higher probability of having a disease. The results support the hypothesis that informal employment has a negative impact on the health of informal workers in Peru, highlighting the importance of addressing this issue through comprehensive public policies.
