This study proposes the analysis of the translation of Nimbo (Shusterman, 2018a) from English to Spanish, with the objective of understanding how the characterization of a dystopian science fiction character is translated. The characters of this genre have distinctive features according to the context of the story, which is necessary to consider when addressing their translation. This idea leads us to consider the problematic that exists when translating characterization of a character in dystopian science fiction literature. Thunderhead (Shusterman, 2018b) has been translated into several languages, which include French, German, Polish, Persian, Russian, Hebrew, and Chinese. For this research, the version translated into Spanish, Nimbo (Shusterman, 2018a), by Pilar Ramírez Tello and published by Nocturna Ediciones publishing house in 2018 is used. This study assumes that in the novel Nimbo there is a characterization of the dystopian character Nimbo through physical, psychological and moral-ethical traits in a direct and indirect way. Nimbo is a character from a dystopian science fiction story, an aspect that influences his characterization. For the purpose of this study, we explored the concepts of characterization, narration, science fiction translation and dystopia.
