Vehicle congestion is a global problem and Lima is no exception due to inadequate planning and execution of road works, with a notable impact on intersections such as roundabouts. In this context, the present research proposes a geometric redesign of the La Fontana roundabout, located in the La Molina district, based on the NCHRP-REPORT 672 manual, with the aim of reducing travel times. The methodology adopted includes a verification of compliance with the regulations established in the manual and an evaluation of deficiencies in the current design of the roundabout. A vehicle survey was carried out on two different days to collect the necessary data. Data from the first day, including peak hour traffic flows, speeds and travel times, were used for model construction and calibration with the existing geometric design. The data from the second day were used for model validation. Using the NCHRP-REPORT 672 manual, the geometric redesign of the roundabout was carried out in both CAD and VISSIM, adjusting the parameters that did not comply with the established guidelines. The results obtained through the VISSIM software, when analyzing the geometric redesign proposal, indicate a decrease in travel times in a range of 11% to 27%. These findings demonstrate that the proposed geometric redesign improves vehicle flow and reduces travel times.
