The document presents the implementation of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) in solid waste compactor trucks where the purpose is to improve the initial availability rate of 81% by reducing unplanned stops due to failures. Chapter 1 contains the background of the transportation sector and its statistics for a better understanding of the growth of the sector, and the importance it represents in the national economy, then the conceptual framework of the RCM is explored and how this information will lay the foundation for implementation in the fleet of compactor trucks. Chapter 2 allows the identification of the problem of low availability, the reasons and causes of why unproductive times are generated due to mechanical breakdowns that turn out to be linked to the different operating systems of the compactor trucks. Chapter 3 contains the detailed design that addresses the development of RCM tools to provide specific details of the failure modes and their effects, and thereby determine the new maintenance tasks to be considered in the plan, on the other hand, makes use of the Weibull statistical model to improve the life cycle of compactor trucks and consequently improve availability. Chapter 4 presents the functional validation by comparing before and after maintenance performance indicators such as MTBF, MTTR and availability, and then addresses the evaluation of the indicators to determine the viability and profitability of the investment.
