Poor structural design, poor practice in the construction process, lack of maintenance and inspection, and natural disasters are the main causes of collapse of reinforced concrete bridges. In Peru, bridge collapses were mainly the result of sudden increases in river flows, which impact the foundations and cause structural failures. Focusing on the structural risk, the degree of deterioration of the bridges can only be determined by visual inspections in the field, which are essential to identify the structural failures in each bridge component. During the execution of the “Consultancy service for the survey of information in the sections of the national road network not under concession - block 1 - central zone”, the current condition of 71 reinforced concrete bridges was determined using the methodology of the Computerized Bridge Administration System (SCAP). For this purpose, this research work applies a predictive model of bridge damage using Genetic Programming (GP) and based on visual inspections of bridges in departments of central Peru. This model will predict whether the bridges under study will suffer minor or major damage and in the worst case, whether the bridge will collapse under an extreme event. Therefore, 14 reinforced concrete bridges were evaluated in the predictive model in the extreme scour event, with the result that all bridges will suffer major damage to their structures because their probability of occurrence was greater than that of the cases of minor damage and collapse. Similarly, a relationship between the evaluated methodologies is verified since, according to the SCAP methodology, the evaluated bridges are between values of 2.02 and 4.14, which suggests that they are in a worrisome, bad or very bad condition and that they are minimally presenting major damage to their structure.
