The following study will focus on the redesign of the pedestrian infrastructure on Elmer Faucett Avenue in San Miguel, Lima. This avenue is an important arterial road that connects various points of the city and is frequented by many pedestrians daily. The study will focus particularly on the section between Av. Parque de la Leyenda and Av. La Marina. This section presents six intersections which are very busy. The main objective of the study is to improve the safety, accessibility and comfort of pedestrians who travel on this road. The project analysis begins with a detailed evaluation of the existing pedestrian infrastructure, including sidewalks, crosswalks, signage and street furniture. Likewise, critical points were identified where problems of congestion, lack of security or accessibility occur, as well as the specific needs of different users, such as older people, people with disabilities or children. Based on this evaluation, a series of interventions and improvements were proposed in the urban design of the avenue, taking the NACTO and MTC manuals as reference. Finally, various proposals were proposed, which include the expansion or reconfiguration of sidewalks, the installation of elevated or traffic-signalized pedestrian crossings, the implementation of rest areas or green areas, and the improvement of road and pedestrian signage. As a result, a 36% reduction in travel times was obtained as well as a decrease in the speed and acceleration parameters of pedestrians.
