This research addresses the problem of the hydraulic behavior of the Pativilca River, focusing on how the cleaning of its channel affects its flow dynamics. The accumulation of sediment and vegetation in the riverbed has generated the need for periodic cleaning to mitigate flood risks that affect both infrastructure and local communities. To investigate this problem, the following procedure was implemented: data were collected from the technical file corresponding to the cleaning and de-siltation of a specific section of the Pativilca River, called “Cleaning and De-siltation of the Pativilca River, Sectors Las Huertas, Roncador, Vinto Bajo, Barranca District“. With this data, crucial parameters such as Manning's roughness coefficient, the area section, hydraulic flow, channel slope, flow rates and flow velocity were selected and analyzed. Using Hec-RAS software, two flow scenarios were modeled: one prior to channel cleaning and the other after the intervention. Based on these models, variations in the flow rates, velocities and shear stresses were evaluated to determine the effect of the channel cleaning. The results of the hydraulic modeling show that there were positive and negative values after the river cleaning. For the flow velocity the positive average variation of 0.28 m/s, which means an increase in velocity after channel cleaning, also, it presented a negative average variation of 0.14 m/s, which means a decrease in velocity after channel cleaning. In addition, the flow depths presented a negative average variation of 0.14 m, thus improving the river's capacity to handle high precipitation events, decreasing the variability in water depth and reducing the risk of localized flooding. Likewise, shear stresses along the riverbed were observed, which present a positive average variation of 26.19 N/m, suggesting an increase in flow velocity, and a negative average variation of 30.80 N/m, which means that the flow is slow.
