Traffic congestion is a very important problem to address in the country as it generates a decrease in the quality of life, increased travel time for buses and users, wear and tear of the vehicular infrastructure, due to the lack of implementation of traffic control technologies by the competent authorities as it requires a large investment in the most critical intersections in Peru. This would imply improving the traffic light infrastructure and all the variables related to traffic flow, such as signaling, road safety audits and road design adjustments at intersections to have a more fluid and safer driving in the capital. For this reason, it is important to know new technologies such as intelligent or adaptive traffic lights, which control the vehicular flow with sensors or video cameras programmed to the traffic conditions to improve the flow efficiency. The main objective of this thesis is the implementation of adaptive traffic lights at the intersection of Tomas Valle Ave. and Panamericana Norte Highway to mitigate vehicular and pedestrian delay by means of micro simulation. These data were used to enter them into the software that allows us to see them in a real way. Then the traffic light cycle was developed. As a result, we obtained better time, speed, queue length, among others.
