This thesis deals with the optimization strategy for the expansion of the Emapa Huaral Drinking Water Treatment Plant by means of dynamic programming, with the objective of satisfying future water demand in a technically and economically efficient manner. Considering a 40-year horizon, a population projection was made using the parabolic method, which showed the best fit with a higher adjusted R². The future demand, estimated from this projection and the factors established in the National Building Regulations, was determined to be 235.27 l/s, which is a significant increase over the current demand of 103.12 l/s. Dynamic programming identified the optimal sequence of expansions in five stages, increasing capacity by 20.62 l/s per stage. Initial gap closure of 53.92 l/s was considered in the first stage, allowing a final capacity of 235.27 l/s to be reached. Key parameters such as the discount rate of 5.5% and the costs associated with each stage of expansion were defined. Analysis of the results showed that the production capacity can be expanded efficiently and economically to meet the projected demand. Based on these results, further studies of consumption variation coefficients and a detailed analysis of water use by sector are recommended. In addition, it is crucial to consider urban development plans and changes in land use that may affect future demand.
