Introduction: Early childhood caries (ECC) represents a public health problem worldwide. The knowledge parents have about the disease influences from before the birth of the baby and during its first years, with the mother being the one who plays a very important role. It’s relevant to determine if the information provided during this stage can last in the mother during the infant's first years and in the care of her future children. The objective of this study was to compare the knowledge of early childhood caries in primiparous and multiparous mothers in Lima Metropolitana in 2023. Materials and methods: The design of this study is observational, transversal and analytical. The intervention took place at the EsSalud Marino Molina Scippa Hospital in the areas of Gynecology and Pediatrics. 350 participants (primiparous and multiparous mothers) were assessed using a 16-question multiple-choice questionnaire on CIT knowledge, which obtained a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.75. Results: No statistically significant differences were found between both groups except for three questions: the amount of toothpaste that children under 3 years of age should use (p=<0.001), the appropriate time to start tooth brushing (p=0.028) and the type of brush that should be used (p=0.049). Conclusion: The number of children or the mother's experience is not an indicator to determine knowledge about early childhood caries.
