In the context of the Peruvian mining sector, a problem was identified in a zinc refinery related to delays in the delivery of material to the port of Callao for export, negatively impacting operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. The analysis revealed that the bottleneck was in the temporary warehouse, specifically in the product cooling stage. Three solutions were proposed: implement a traceability system, redistribute the temporary warehouse by expanding the cooling area, and diversify transportation using rail and trucks. After a thorough evaluation, it was determined that redistributing the temporary warehouse and expanding the cooling zone was the most viable solution. This solution is aligned with the principles of lean warehousing and the theory of constraints, focused on optimizing the critical area of the process. Its implementation was able to reduce cooling times and optimize loading. In addition, the economic evaluation supported its financial viability, with a positive NPV and an IRR higher than the cost of capital. In conclusion, this research work addressed a crucial issue in the Peruvian mining sector and proposed an effective solution to improve operational performance in the delivery of refined zinc to the port for export.
