The uncertainty of the Rímac River flows represents a significant issue for water availability in Lima. In this study, a time period analysis was conducted to calculate the 75% flow persistence using duration curves, utilizing the average monthly flows obtained from the Chosica station provided by the National Water Authority (ANA). To eliminate the influence of water transfers and naturalize the flows, the same procedure was applied, but subtracting the flows from the existing transfers. The percentage comparisons revealed the following: for the initial series studied, there was a 3.95% decrease in the naturalized flow for the 1930-1990 series compared to the 1930-1970 series, and a 4.03% increase in the naturalized flow for the 1930-2010 series compared to the 1930-1990 series. In the later series, a 3.70% decrease was detected in the naturalized flow for the 1960-2020 series compared to the 1980-2020 series, and a 5.81% increase in the 1940-2020 series compared to the 1960-2020 series. These variations align with the El Niño and La Niña phenomena that occurred during those years, highlighting the influence of these climatic events on the water availability of the Rímac River. A detailed understanding of these trends is crucial for effective water resource management in the region.
