The research objective has been to propose a real and accessible solution focused on mitigating vehicular congestion at one of the main intersections in the Historic Center of Lima, formed by the avenues: Jirón Amazonas, Jirón Ancash, and Jirón Junín, located on Abancay Avenue. The research was descriptive, quantitative, and regarding the methodology, the Highway Capacity Manual 2010, developed by Cal and Mayor Rafael and Cardenas James, was referenced. The HCM 2010 consists of four stages: data collection, data processing, results analysis, and outcomes. Once the methodology was defined, the vehicles circulating at each intersection were recorded, indicating that, in the three areas, the peak hour is between 18:45 and 19:45. Continuing with data processing and review, service levels were identified for each intersection, namely, for intersections 1, 2, and 3, the corresponding levels were D, D, and F. Subsequently, information was inputted into the Synchro 8.0 software platform to verify the achieved levels and calculate the waiting time, requiring input of traffic signal cycles, traffic counts, and intersection characteristics. This resulted in the confirmed alignment of the levels calculated manually and the waiting time at each intersection, which were necessary values for proposing solutions. In conclusion, two proposals were put forward: the first related to increased municipal control and the second involving synchronization of the traffic signal system. These improvements allowed simulating the new service levels that would exist at these three intersections if the proposed measures were implemented. In other words, thanks to these proposals, intersections 1, 2, and 3 would have service levels of C, C, and D respectively, as vehicular congestion would be reduced, traffic signal cycles shortened, and queue presence significantly decreased.
