Reading is one of the most important skills that a person can develop within a literate society. This must be instilled throughout the training stage and there are key figures who perform this function. University libraries are a key element in advising and encouraging reading among young students. The Booktok community located within the Tik Tok social network provides useful information to promote reading in this age group. The methodology consisted of carrying out a content analysis of 50 videos belonging to #booktokperu, where the hashtags, authors and books, and recurring themes promoted within the videos were explored. The results show that popular hashtags create community, provide information about literary genres, authors and books within the community. In turn, the authors and books promoted are only a select group and most of them touch on youth fiction themes. The recurring themes were about shady and/or creepy books, providing important or curious facts about books, creating humorous content around reading, making reading recommendations, appreciating a book, giving opinions on adaptations of books to movies and giving recommendations on how to get free or cheap books. In conclusion, university libraries can use this information provided by the Peruvian Booktok community to guide their advice towards the current tastes and preferences of the young people who turn to them, where reading for pleasure is just as important as reading for academic purposes.
