The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between parenting style and social skills in preschool boys and girls from the perspective of first-time parents. A quantitative study with an associative cross-sectional design was used. The Parenting Styles questionnaire and the Social Skills Observation Guide were applied, both questionnaires adapted by Zavala in 2017. The sample was made up of 134 first-time parents from Metropolitan Lima with ages between 20 and 49 years, having an average of 28 ,5 years. The Rho Spearman correlation statistical test was used to process the data. As a result, it was obtained that the reliability of the scores of the parenting styles scale for the democratic dimension was ω= .83 and authoritarian was ω= .80. The HHSS attitude dimension has statistically significant correlations of slight positive magnitude with the permissive (r < .37) and authoritarian (r < .33) styles. The democratic style has a slight negative correlation with Feelings (r< .20). In conclusion, it is demonstrated that there is a correlation between the variables of parenting styles and social skills. The presence of the democratic, permissive, and authoritarian style was evident, being the democratic style to which more than 116 parents (86.6%) feel identified, however, they do not develop the social competencies that are necessary for interaction with their environment.
