The International Cocoa Organization has stated that many cocoa producers are struggling to meet market prices, Peru being one of the largest cocoa producing countries in the world and within this the San Martin Region considered as one of the main cocoa exporting areas (ComexPeru, 2023). In this sense, the research aimed to determine to what extent the productive innovation applied by cocoa exporting companies in the San Martin Region is related to their export performance period 2018 - 2022. Under this context, its dimensions (i) product, (ii) process and (iii) technological innovation were evaluated. A mixed methods approach was used using a descriptive correlational design to collect quantitative information by applying a Likert scale survey to representatives of cocoa exporting companies and qualitative information through semi-structured interviews. The sample for the quantitative approach were 14 cocoa exporting companies from the period 2018 to 2022 and for the qualitative approach were 12 cocoa sector experts. The theory taken into account for the study was the Uppsala model as it focuses on acquiring, integrating and using knowledge about foreign markets. The SPSS v.28 and Atlas Ti v.23 software was used for data collection and analysis of the results. The main result obtained was that the dimensions of the surveys are positively correlated with the dependent variable export performance.
