Objective: Determine if there is an association between fear of falling and the level of physical activity in older adults. Methods: This study included 134 older adults of both sexes, aged 60 years and older, from a Comprehensive Center for the Elderly (CIAM) in Metropolitan Lima. Fear of falling was measured with the “Tinetti Falls Efficacy Scale” and the level of physical activity with the “Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly.” Other instruments were used such as the “Geriatric Depression Scale-15”, the “Functional Scale for Lower Limbs” and the “Test for Identification of Disorders Due to Alcohol Consumption''. Results: No association was found between fear of falling and the level of physical activity (PRa=1.11, 95% CI=0.99 to 1.25), but there was an association between this and age (PRa=0.85, CI 95%=0.76 to 0.94), living alone or with someone (PRa=0.78, 95% CI=0.70 to 0.86), chronic diseases (PRa= 0.84, 95% CI= 0.75 to 0.93 ) and lower limb functionality (PRa=1.14, 95% CI= 1.01 to 1.28). Conclusions: No association was found between fear of falling and the level of physical activity in older adults; but it does affect this with age, living alone or with someone, chronic diseases and functionality in the lower limbs.
