Peru is one of the countries with the greatest water availability on the planet, however, the population of a little more than 33 million inhabitants is found in Pacific Ocean basins, where rivers have little water availability and above all concentrated in rainy season and decrease enormously in dry season. The Cunas sub-basin has an area of 1666 km2, located on the right bank of the Mantaro River, with a cold and rainy climate from December to April, with an average annual rainfall of 859.3 mm/year. The province of Chuapaca is located in this sub-basin, where the main activity is agriculture, with 10,023.14 hectares under irrigation and a crop certificate of: potato, wheat, vegetables, alfalfa, quinoa, barley and others that supply the province of Chupaca and the city of Lima. The objective of this thesis is to reduce the water deficit in the irrigation sectors of Cunas by taking advantage of the water resources from the rainy season, in which three dams have been proposed. Currently the crops are supplied with the rain and the water availability of the Cunas river, which has an annual mass of 468.4 MMC/year, Its 78.5% is concentrated during the months of December to April. The current demand for water for agricultural use is 98,691 MMC/year and there is a deficit of 15.82 MMC/year in the irrigation sectors of Laive-Yanacancha, in San José de Quero and Cunas Bajo, with low coverage during the month of August, which order is 54.4%. In order to reduce this deficit, the construction of three dams has been proposed, one for each irrigation sector, called, as: high part 1 dam for the San José de Queros sector with a volume of 7 MMC, high part 2 dam for the Laive-Yanacancha sector with a volume of 6 MMC and lower part dam with a volume of 20 MMC for the lower Cunas irrigation sector. With proper operation of these storage dams, the water deficit for agricultural use could be reduced to 0.34 MMC/year, which represents a drastic decrease in the water deficit, which for the scenario without the project is 15.82 MMC/year and could have a 98% of demand coverage
