Critical Thinking, as one of the 21st Century competencies with growing demand, has become a complex construct that involves mental processes including the identification, evaluation and analysis of problems, interpretation of information, the synthesis of evidence and the reporting of conclusions. With regard to this, and observing that in Peru, national evaluations show that high school students obtain low scores in the levels of Critical Thinking, this research aims to analyze the activities that are part of the Design Thinking methodology as a potential promoter of Critical Thinking in students who start university studies. For this purpose, 180 first year students from different majors of a private university, who were taking the Creativity Workshop, where the Design Thinking methodology is used, participated in the research. By means of a qualitative research route and with an exploratory and descriptive scope, Critical Thinking was evaluated at the end of the course by analyzing the students' skills through their final group assignments. In conclusion, the results indicate that Design Thinking methods encompass a variety of activities that meet the elements of Critical Thinking, in a way that promotes this competence, giving promising evidence that Critical Thinking can support the development of additional creative and innovative thinking and that teachers can foster these skills using Design Thinking in their classrooms. It is important to note that the present research was conducted in an emergency remote education context owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
