Dubbing studies often investigate projects in established industries. However, there are dubbing processes in different contexts with unique characteristics. An example is Torre A’s Spanish-Quechua Chanka dubbing of animated series Ciudad Jardín, commissioned by Peruvian public television. Interviews with the agents involved in the dubbing project showed how Torre A employed non-professional participants whose skills allowed them to adopt multiple tasks and form work teams. In this way, the process distances itself from the traditional model of specialized roles with defined responsibilities. The project also required proposing a dubbese for Quechua, which was influenced by ideological perspectives on the use of the language. This research shows how dubbing into native languages can benefit from integrating innovative practices that increase the agency of the participants. This leads us to question the boundaries between professional and non-professional dubbing.
